How do I download and install the BGroom software?
The download process is quick and easy: click here for full instructions on how to download our free playing software.

How long will it take to download?
Depending on the speed of your internet connection, the software download should take no more than a few minutes to complete.

What are the system requirements needed to run the BGroom software?
BGroom's software is supported by Microsoft Windows XP Operating Systems and above, with the following minimum specification: Pentium, 128MB RAM. You will also need a DSL or faster internet connection.

Please note that Windows Vista is completely compatible with our software.

Unfortunately you can not download BGroom to mac.

If you have been experiencing difficulties, below you will find three steps to help eradicate this issue:
  1. Firstly, could you ensure that your system clock is set to the correct time and date, and then try the software again as this can cause a conflict with the software.
  2. If you are then still experiencing problems, please check that you have configured any firewall software such as Norton, MacAfee or Windows firewall to allow the software access to the Internet.
This is usually done through settings/configuration under their allowed programs list. For more information on how to do this please refer to the firewall providers user manual or your system administrator.
The same would apply if you are going through a proxy server/router.
For more complicated proxy servers/firewalls you need to configure the exact ports and protocols allowed.
Our download software uses these protocols and ports: http, https and tcp on ports: 80 or 443 or 16565
Details on how to configure routers can be found at www.portforward.com
  3. Networks can be unreliable, especially at the user end.
If you are using a WiFi connection to your modem/router or even a hard wired (twisted-pair) connection it would be worthwhile updating both firmware on the modem/router and the software drivers for the network adapter.

Details of how you can do this will be located at the respective manufacturers websites.

Can I have more than one BGroom account?
Players may only run one active account at any time, in order to avoid any confusion and to help avoid your account details being duplicated by would-be hackers.

I am having problems logging-in, what can I do?
First make sure that you are connected to the internet. If so, check that you have entered the correct Username and Password.

If you have a firewall operating on your computer, it is possible that this is preventing you from logging-in. On rare occasions the BGroom server may encounter problems, in which case you should simply try to log-in again after a short period of time.

What happens if I am disconnected during a game?
Here at BGroom we understand that internet connections do not always work as they should, so in the event that you are disconnected whilst playing, you will have 5 minutes in which to reconnect and sign into BGroom, at which point you will be automatically reconnected to your game.

We recommend that you make a few tests in practice mode to check our software. In the middle of a game unplug your internet cable and try to reconnect again.

In an effort to stop players intentionally disconnecting or forfeiting during game play when they are losing, BGroom will penalize such activity, as described below:

Disconnection:
If you fail to reconnect to a game from which you were disconnected within 5 minutes (either intentionally or unintentionally) you will lose the game, and you will pay your opponent double the original game wager plus whatever the stakes are according to the doubling cube at the time of disconnection. For example, if the agreed wager before play was $10, then you will pay your opponent $20. If you or your opponent doubled once with the Doubling cube, you will then pay a total of $40.

Per Total timer runs out:
In the event that your Per Total timer runs out of time (either intentionally or unintentionally) whilst playing, you will lose the game. You will pay your opponent double the original game wager plus whatever the stakes are according to the doubling cube when the timer runs out.
For example, if the agreed wager before play was $10, then you will pay your opponent $20. If you or your opponent doubled once with the Doubling cube, you will then pay a total of $40.

Closing window by clicking on “X” tab:
If you close an active game window by clicking on the “X” tab in the upper right hand corner of the window during the game (either intentionally or unintentionally) you will automatically lose the game. In this situation, you will pay your opponent triple the original game wager plus whatever the stakes are according to the doubling cube at the time of game window closure.
For example, if the agreed game wager before play was $10, then you will pay your opponent $30. If you or your opponent doubled once with the Doubling cube, you will then pay a total of $60.

BGroom.com constantly monitors all activities on its servers and any players that repeatedly end their game in any the above circumstances will be investigated and may have action taken against them as BGroom sees fit.

I’m having problems with my connection and can’t seem to play normally?
If your internet connection is slow, this could be due to internet lag.
Internet lag is often caused by poor connection between your ISP and our server.

Also please keep in mind that your location, Internet traffic, background downloading, as well as other variables all contribute to a slow connection.
Unfortunately this is something beyond our control but your own connection is often improved if you close out other bandwidth-consuming applications such as internet browsers, file sharing programs, chat programs, etc. (Try to keep these at a minimum so that your play will be as smooth as possible.)

Please note our technicians monitor the speed of our connection around the clock and we do not experience slow connections, as we have the fastest high speed connection that is available.

Your Internet connection is rated in the following order, Very Good>Good>Fair>Poor>None.

Please keep an eye on your local internet connection icon which should be located at the bottom right hand side on your screen next to the time.
The level should always be on Good to play a normal game.
You may wish to contact your Internet Service Provider to see if they are also experiencing connection problems and to see if there is anything else they can do for you to keep your connection at a high speed.

The game froze what do I do?
If you are playing a game and the game freezes, please leave the game window open.
If the problem is ours, our team of technicians will try to fix the problem immediately as they work 24/7.
Once the problem has been resolved, players will then be able to continue playing in their games, from the point the game froze.
If however one of the players closes their game window, then the player that closed the window first will automatically loose the game and loose maximum points.
If we do find that there was a malfunction/error then we will happily refund any Real money lost stakes.

The following information would need to be supplied in order for your game to be reviewed:
  • Table ID
  • Match ID
  • Players username (player and opponent)
  • Time of problem
  • Exact problem
We do not however refund rating points or demo money as they do not actually have any real, monitory value.

Please also check if this happens again that your internet connection is good, as in most cases this is why the game window freezes, as member’s connections are low or may have been disconnected completely from there ISP.

How do I import games to Snowie?
Firstly you need to purchase and register Snowie on your Computer, here is a link that will help:
https://www.bgsnowie.com/buy/products_snowie.dhtml?nwaffr=69

In order to analyze a match in Snowie, you must do three things: Save the match, convert it to a format Snowie can read, and then run it through Snowie.

Saving the match file: To save the log of dice and moves in a Zone match, do the following:

On the game board, click on "Game/Settings/Display/Display Move Notation Pane." This will open up a separate window.
The new window has a "Save" button at the bottom. After the match ends, you want to click on this, then follow standard Windows protocol to save it to a file.
The game log will disappear as soon as one player leaves the game. Therefore you must save the game before either player leaves the table.
Go through the steps to save the file except for the final "Save" click.
As soon as the match ends and you see the "Match Over" message you then need to save it. It helps to ask your opponent to wait a moment until this is done.

I have Windows Vista but there seems to be problems?
Windows Vista is completely compatible with our software.
In some cases Windows Vista tends to detect the activex controls required to load the buttons as "unsigned activex controls" and blocks them.
You could try the following workaround with regards to this issue, but this will be at your OWN RISK as Unsigned ActiveX controls can be much more of a potential security risk than signed ones from sites that cannot be trusted.
  • Click on the "Tools" menu and select "Internet Options".
  • Click on the "Security" tab. - Click on the globe marked "Internet". This will display a slider which, by default, is set to "Medium".
  • Click on the "custom" button. - Scroll down until you find the setting "Download unsigned ActiveX Controls". Prompt this setting.
  • Click OK as needed to save the setting. This step will allow you to download an unsigned ActiveX control. - Scroll down until you find the setting "Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting". Enable this setting.
  • Click OK as needed to save the setting. This step will allow the VBScript in the web page can interact with the OCX.
  • Please advise the player that as Unsigned ActiveX controls from untrusted sites can be much more of a potential security risk, the option under "Download unsigned ActiveX Controls" should NOT be set to Enable, rather leave this set to Disable or Prompt (in this case) for improved security, only allowing controls to be downloaded on site you know can be trusted.
Alternatively you could contact Microsoft with regards to this issue.

Who goes first?
To decide who will start the game, each player rolls a single die and the player with the highest number begins, using both his number and that of his opponent in his opening move. This is called the Opening roll.
How are the checkers moved around the board?
Click here to read about checker movements.
What happens if I roll doubles?
If a player rolls doubles, the numbers are played twice. For example, if both dice read 5, the player has four moves of 5, which can be played in any legal combination the player wishes: four checkers moved 5 pips each, one checker moved 20 pips (4 x 5 pips) or any such combination.
Can I move my checker to any point on the board?
A checker may only be advanced to an Open Point: any point that is free of checkers or is occupied by the players own checkers, or has no more than one of the opponents' checkers placed on it. A Checker may not be advanced to a point that is occupied by two or more of the opponents' checkers.
How many checkers can I have on a single point?
As long as you control the point, there is no limit to the amount of checkers you may place on that point.
How much time do I have to make a move?
There are three time options when playing at BGroom. Choose between the following three game types:
Game typePer MovePer Total Game
Blitz15 Seconds1:30 minutes
Normal20 Seconds2:30 minutes
Slow25 Seconds3:30 minutes
Can I pass when it's my turn?
As long as a legal move may be made, a player may not pass on his turn. If it is not possible to play both rolled numbers, a player must use the higher of the two. A player forfeits his turn only if neither number can be played.
Can I land on a single checker belonging to my opponent?
A single/lone checker on a point is known as a Blot. If a player's checker lands on an opponents blot, either as an intermediate move or as a final landing point, the blot is removed from the board and placed on the bar. This is known as a Hit. If a player's checkers have been hit, his first priority is to enter them back onto his opponents Home board. Until this has been done, he may not advance any other checkers around the board.
What happens then?
To return a checker to the board, a player must roll a number corresponding to an open point on his opponents Home board. Any number remaining having returned a blot to the board must be used in the normal fashion to advance a checker. If neither of his rolled numbers corresponds to open points, he must forfeit and wait for his next turn to try again.
I have moved all of my checkers into my home board: what now?
Once all 15 checkers have been advanced to a player's home board, he can begin bearing them off. The dice are rolled as normal, and checkers are then removed in correspondence to the numbers rolled. For example, if a player rolls 4 and 1, he may then remove a checker from points 4 and 1.
Can I bear-off my checkers in any order?
There are certain rules that dictate the order in which you may bear off. If there are no checkers on the point indicated by the dice, the player must move checkers from the next highest point to a lower number.

If the only points occupied by checkers are lower than the numbers rolled, the player may bear off checkers from the next highest point down.

If a player's checker is hit while he is bearing off, it must first be entered back onto his opponent's home board and then advanced back around to his own home board before he can continue to bear off checkers.

What is the Doubling Cube and how is it used?
The Doubling Cube is used to increase and keep track of the stakes of the game. It is marked with the numbers 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64. A player can offer to double the stakes of a game at any stage after the opening play and then his opponent must decide to accept or decline the offer to double the stakes.

If he declines, he loses/forfeits the game at its present stake. If he accepts, the stakes are doubled and the cube is turned to display the new stake. Once a player accepts the double, he is given possession of the cube and then only he can re-double the stakes.
